Welcome Home

Georgie Weedon is Artist in Residence at the National Trust, Avebury for 2026 — a residency rooted in one of Britain's most significant prehistoric landscapes. Set within the Avebury half of the Stonehenge, Avebury & Associated Sites World Heritage Site in Wiltshire, the residency has seen Weedon respond to the extraordinary layers of history, nature and human connection that define the site, developing a new body of work inspired by the ancient stone circle, the surrounding landscape, and the historic spaces of Avebury Manor House and garden.

Close to the Manor's garden in the Old Farmyard is the Dovecote — a 16th-century structure once home to nesting doves. Within this intimate, resonant space, Welcome Home invites you to pause, sit quietly, and experience a single sung voice as it reverberates through the ancient walls. The work is a small invitation to be still — to listen, to breathe, and to feel the quiet energy of a place where time feels layered and present at once.

The installation forms part of Ancient Pathways, a wider exhibition of paintings and works on paper created during the residency, on view in the newly developed Racquets Court Gallery within Avebury Manor Garden. Together, the gallery, the garden and the Dovecote invite visitors to experience Avebury as a living place where history, nature and community intertwine.
